FED Committee Topics: Menopause in the workplace

Our most recently FED committee meeting covered Menopause, something we know does or will affect a large portion of our workforce.

Let’s break the taboo around speaking about Menopause in the workplace. Prima Cheese is committed to becoming a Menopause friendly organisation.

Our most recently FED committee meeting covered Menopause, something we know does or will affect a large portion of our workforce.

Until experienced for yourself, we often find many people are unaware of the symptoms of Menopause and just how strongly it can affect day to day wellbeing. Our FED committee recently met to discuss how Menopause affects the organisation and how as an employer, manager or colleague we can offer further support as well as hearing first hand experience from Claire, a valued member of the Prima Cheese team.

How are we becoming a Menopause friendly organisation?

  • Raising awareness through internal training.
  • We have appointed a Female Health Champion who is available for staff to speak to if they have concerns and do not feel comfortable speaking directly with their manager.
  • We also intend to roll out the training to managers to ensure they are aware and have knowledge of these issues.

Our training will cover:

  • What is the Menopause and the symptoms?
  • How does it impact the workplace?
  • How can we as an employer help?
  • How can I support as a Manager or Colleague?

At Prima Cheese we recognise the transition may not be an easy process for everyone and can affect an individual’s physical, psychological and emotional health.

We want to create an environment where all employees are comfortable enough to raise issues regarding their symptoms and can request additional support where necessary. Adjustments to working conditions could include home working and flexible working hours while the employee is experiencing symptoms.

We encourage all organisations to start open conversations around topics which may be affecting your employees.
